To manage the impact of the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road (A6MARR) on the Church Road, Gillbent Road and Grove Lane area of Cheadle Hulme work on a series of improvement works will begin on 12th February lasting up to 10 weeks.
The timing and arrangements for the works have been carefully planned taking into account other roadworks taking place in the area including the essential A555 repairs.
Any traffic management such as temporary signals will only be in operation off-peak (9:30am – 3:30pm) and where possible works that will impact the most on the main carriageway are being schedule to coincide with school holidays.
Full details of the works taking place are detailed in this letter. In summary the plans in place include:
- Improvements near Grove Lane – improvements in the area will include an improved pedestrian crossing facility; roundabout improvements and the relocation of the bus stop to a better location. It is planned to undertake these works in stages with signals only in place off-peak to keep any disruption to a minimum whilst also planning the phasing of works on the bus stop and traffic islands to coincide with the half term and Easter holidays as much as possible.
- Improvements to the roundabout at the junction of at the junction of Gillbent Road, Hulme Hall Lane and Church Road – works that it is anticipated will take up to two weeks with signals in place off-peak. The works have been planned to coincide with the half term holiday as much as possible.
- Creation of new lay-by outside the Co-op food store reducing on road parking – much of this work will take place in the footway causing minimal disruption to the road.
- Improvements to the side roads along Gillbent Road – all of these works will be within the side roads not impacting traffic on the main road
We will be working closely with the contractors to keep the period of road improvements to a minimum.
