Whilst work on the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road continues, local groups are benefitting from the work taking place and the contractor’s commitment to supporting the community.
Since the start of construction work, volunteers from the Carillion Morgan Sindall joint venture have already given many hours of their time and expertise to helping local good causes and this is set to continue over the coming months.
One of the first groups to benefit was the Friends of Stanley Hall Park in Handforth. Working to see the park returned to its former glory, the group were given a major boost when a new, accessible picnic area was created by joint venture volunteers who provided both materials and labour. Over four days an area of the park which was previously flat grass land was transformed into a brand new picnic area which will be enjoyed by visitors for years to come.
Seashell Trust Sensory Garden
Work by the volunteers has also created a new sensory garden at The Seashell Trust in Cheadle Hulme for pupils to enjoy. With improved footpaths and planters filled with vibrantly coloured and heavily scented flowers, the garden is now an inviting area where all students can go to experience the world around them.
Another outdoor area that the team will be working to improve is the Community Garden at the Wythenshawe Campus of The Manchester College. Working together College staff and Carillion Morgan Sindall volunteers will create a new area from which students can learn practical skills that will be essential for the future, such as horticulture and catering. The community garden will not only be a valuable addition to the college but will also bring pupils, staff and the local community together.
Users of Woodbank Park are also set to benefit from the work. As part of the stadium improvements taking place, the joint venture team will be working with the club on a number of jobs to help them.
